You may think all of those people with earbuds you see walking down the street or driving in the car next to you are listening to music. But many of them are probably tuned into one of the thousands of podcasts available to anyone, anytime. Traditional radio with its endless banter and commercials has given way to podcasts about almost anything you can imagine. Working our way through the endless variety of podcasts, we found what we believe are five of the best self-improvement selections:

THE TIM FERRIS SHOW offers positive, uplifting interviews with high profile individuals from almost every walk of life. Consider this variety of guests: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Foxx, Tony Robbins, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Penn Gillette, Lisa Ling, Charles Koch, Edward Norton, Lebron James, James Cameron…need we go on? The topics cover everything from personal well-being to entrepreneurship to mindfulness, and everything in between, such as happiness, psychedelic drugs, success habits of presidents, how to take smart risks and so much more. If you have a long commute or take morning walks or just like to kick back and learn something new, check out Ferris on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

THE RICH ROLL SHOW is hosted by an endurance athlete who used to be an overweight attorney. At 40 he decided to make some big changes that resulted in his finishing in the top 10 in an Ironman competition. Here you will hear motivational talks with big names in health and fitness, nutrition, business and even spirituality. These podcasts are about using your personal power to make positive life changes – eat better, exercise better, work better – just be better. Find it through Google podcasts.

TED TALKS HEALTH is the audio version of the wildly successful Ted Talks. Find it on Apple Podcasts if you might be interested in anything from moving on from loneliness, to psychedelic psychotherapy to what you really need to know about vaping and e-cigarettes. Ted Talks run the gamut of topics and inside of the list you will definitely find something that compels you to listen. Consider the variety that spans drugs that prevent depression before it can happen, how to teach your body to heal faster, the brain changing benefits of exercise and the link between brain injuries and crime. These podcasts have the distinction of being brief and hard-hitting. Some are as short as five or six minutes.

THE HABIT COACH on Apple Podcasts is Ashdin Doctor’s program that is just what it says. These are shows about how to develop good habits or break bad ones. Do you need break negativity, neutralize your anger, cure your sugar addiction or quit over-empathizing with everybody? Maybe you need to find a way to learn to stop whining so much, or increase your self worth, or choose happiness. Just like Ted Talks Health, these are brief, often seven to 10 minutes. You may be surprised what a few minutes a day can do to enhance your life.

OPRAH’S SuperSoul CONVERSATIONS, because who doesn’t love Oprah? These podcasts are explorations of well-being, spirituality, and general life lessons with names you are bound to recognize. Just a few: Kate Hudson, Dwayne Johnson, Tina Fey, Dr. Phil, Lady Gaga, Bob Iger, Malcolm Gladwell, Eckhart Tolle, Toni Morrison. We could go on and on, but the important thing about these podcasts is the depth of the conversations that generally run from 30 to 60 minute through Apple Podcasts.
