5 GREAT TRAVEL CREDIT CARDS

Seasoned travelers know that selecting the right credit card for your trips has everything to do with saving money on future travel. We surveyed a number of travel credit cards to come up with our favorites. Those favorites are all about earning and saving you money. You have enough to do planning your trip –we did the legwork for you to find our choices for the top five best cards for travel:

VENTURE REWARDS® FROM CAPITAL ONE® CARD

We like not having to pay an annual fee for the first year (although after that it will cost $95/year). But that’s not the best of what this card offers. This card allows you to earn unlimited 2x miles per dollar on every purchase, every day. It gets better: You will earn 10x miles on many hotels through January 2020. Also, if you spend $3,000 within the first three months, you will earn 50,000 bonus miles.

WELLS FARGO PROPEL AMERICAN EXPRESS® CARD

Here is a card you may consider using for most, if not all of your consumer purchases. Here’s why: In addition to no annual fee and no foreign currency conversion fee, this card offers 30,000 bonus points when you spend $3,000 in purchases in the first 3 months – that’s a $300 cash redemption value. In addition, the card offers 3x points on dining out, travel expenses, gas stations, transit, some streaming services and 1x points on other purchases.

BANK OF AMERICA® PREMIUM REWARDS® CARD

This card has an annual fee of $95, but you will receive 50,000 bonus points – a $500 value – after you make at least $3,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of account opening. Further, you can earn unlimited 2 points for every $1 spent on travel and dining purchases and unlimited 1.5 points per $1 spent on all other purchases. Speaking of unlimited points, there is no limit on the points you can earn, and the points never expire. This card also offers many different ways you can redeem your points, including cash back or statement credits.

CHASE SAPHIRE PREFERRED® CARD

After your $95 annual fee, this card allows you to earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4000 in the first three months. There is no foreign transaction fee, and you will earn 2x points on travel and dining, and 1x points on all other purchases. This card also offers a roadside assistance feature, and a cancelled flight insurance feature. And, we like the lost luggage reimbursement this card offers.

THE PLATINUM CARD® FROM AMERICAN EXPRESS

Let’s talk luxury travel. No list of top travel cards could ignore this one. Although it comes with a hefty $550 annual fee, the perks are very comfy. In addition to an introductory bonus of 60,000 points, this card offers 5x points on trips booked directly with airlines of with American Express Travel. Also offered are 5x membership rewards points on prepaid hotels booked with amextravel.com. We really like the access offered to proprietary airport lounge locations around the world. There are also generous credits for Uber and Hotels. Feeling a little self-indulgent? This card is for you.
