Consider A Theme Vacation

If you have already been to the Disney properties, the Grand Canyon, the Colorado Mountains, Bourbon Street and any other number of iconic vacation destinations, maybe it is time for a theme vacation.

Just as the title suggests, a theme vacation is built around one area of interest. If you are an animal lover, maybe you would like to spend a week at an animal sanctuary in one of your favorite parts of the world. You may be one of those people who considers yourself a connoisseur of wine. Spending time touring aged vineyards maybe a perfect getaway. Whatever you avocation or area of interest, dedicating time to learning and enjoying more of it might be great fun.

Here are five great theme vacation ideas:

Spend a week with American wildlife

If you are fascinated by various animal species who live in our country, check out the natural habitats in Wyoming. The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole, a luxury mountain lodge way out west. Located adjacent to the Grand Teton National Park, you can luxuriate at the hotel with a pampering spa day, or commune wit nature on a wildlife safari in the park. Fly fishing, hiking, skiing, bird watching, biking rafting – there is no shortage of adventurous fun. “Rough it” during the day, and fine dine in the evening. Perfect.

Cooking and dining in Tuscany

So, you love Italian food and you dream of spending your vacation in Italy. Get thee to Tuscany, where you can spend your holiday dividing your time between cooking classes helmed by seasoned chefs, and mingling with cheese producers, winemakers, olive farmers, and breaking bread with the locals. Then head to one of the world’s finest art destinations, Florence, which just happens to be the capital of Tuscany. Michelangelo’s David has been on your bucket list long enough  – it’s time.

Relaxing among the grapes

Are you the one who everyone in your circle counts on to select the perfect wines for dinner? Maybe you should gather up those same friends and journey to Sonoma for a relaxing week among 70,000 acres of land occupied by 400 wineries. There are no maddening crowds, but there is plenty of sunshine and some of the best wine tastings in the world. If it’s privacy and luxury you crave, check out the elegant Ledson Hotel. There are only six rooms in this exclusive enclave, and every night the chef prepares four to six course meals with wine pairings at each course. Tour the wineries during the day and luxuriate in the evening. You deserve it.

Wellness excursion

Mind, body and spirit – and Oprah? Ms. Winfrey is just one of the many high profile people who tout the healing merits of spending time at Canyon Ranch, a “wellness resort” in Tucson, AZ. Canyon Ranch is indeed a luxury resort, but its focus is restoring your spirit and nurturing your body. Here, professionals in various disciplines help you work on your wellness goals, whether it’s weight loss, reduction of anxiety, or fitness programs, this is a place you can relax and improve your life at the same time. And who doesn’t want that?

Sail away

Some of us tend to forget how beautiful America’s northern coast is, and one of the best ways to see it is from the water. In Maine, you can take three-to-seven day sailing cruises. You’ll visit remote islands, commune with the wildlife in the sea, and fine dine on delicacies like whole baked lobsters, corn chowder, and maple walnut pie. If it’s truly “getting away from it all” you’re looking for, set sail in Maine.

Google a day away searching for vacations that fit your wishes. Even a quick search will land you information about pirate trips, Oktoberfest celebrations, Harry Potter itineraries in the U.K., luxury camping trips (“glamping”) and more. It’s your time to travel. Do it well.
